That Time a Woman Got Away With Murder

Heyo! Happy Monday! If you know me, you know I am an avid researcher of true crime. So I figured why not bring this interest to my blog. Today's subject is Francine Wilson, formerly Hughes, who set her house on fire, killing her abusive ex-husband. I admit, this is a lot more somber than my usual posts, and I promise we'll be back to the whimsical weird That Time... posts next week. First of all, this post requires a trigger warning. There is mention of arson, murder, physical abuse, alcoholism, and rape. If this is not your cup of tea, there are plenty of other history posts . Francine Wilson (then Hughes) with lawyer, Arjen Greydanus, c. 1977 Before we get into the homicide, we need some background. Francine Wilson was born Francine Moran in 1947. She grew up watching her alcoholic father beat her mother. Tragic how history seems to repeat itself. At sixteen, she left home after marrying James "Mickey" Hughes. In an interview with PEOPLE , she recalls the abuse sta...

My 3 Top Nick Jonas Roles

Heyo! Happy Wednesday. I hope your week is going well. I bet you thought I was done writing about the Jonas Brothers, but I'm afraid you are mistaken. I am rambling about my favorite roles that Nick Jonas has performed. These three roles live rent-free in my head and have become some of my favorite fictional characters of all time. I wrote a Fangirl Friday post about Nick last year, so feel free to check that out. Nick Jonas I'm sure when most people think about Nick Jonas, they think about his successful music career as a solo artist and with his brothers, but not many people are aware that he is an actor too. I'm not talking just little celebrity cameos. I'm talking lead or supporting roles. He had been in a handful of firms and television shows. I took it upon myself to go through his filmography between 2023 and 2024 and I had so much fun doing so. Sometimes when musicians try spilling over to film, they're not very successful, but I can confidently say that N...

Fangirl Friday: Deleasa

Heyo! Happy Friday! It's that time of the week when I ramble about someone I love! Today's subject is DJ and producer, Deleasa. His name is Mike Deleasa and while I normally refer to my subjects by first name in these posts, I will be referring to him by his stage name, Deleasa. NOW to understand how I became a fan of Deleasa, we have to go all the way back to 2012, when Kevin and Danielle Jonas' reality show, Married to Jonas  premiered. I bet you're wondering what does this guy have to do with the Jonas Brothers? Deleasa is actually Danielle's brother, making him Kevin's brother-in-law. He was featured in the reality show and I ended up falling in love with him. He was actually my parasocial "rebound" from Joe. You can read all about my parasocial breakup with Joe in my Fangirl Friday about him . But enough about the Jonas Brothers. That's not why we're here. Plus I've already written 30k words about them on this blog. However, I am for...

That Time The Beatles Almost Made a Lord of the Rings Film

Heyo! Happy Monday! If you've followed this blog for a while, you may know of my love for The Beatles, specifically Paul McCartney. My brain is full of useless knowledge about these four Liverpudlians so I figured why not research a fun fact about them and write about it. (L to R) George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr You read that right, The Beatles did indeed want to make a Lord of the Rings  film. The idea came from Denis O'Dell who produced the first two Beatles films, A Hard Day's Night  and Help! . The band had a contract with the production company, United Artists that required them to make one more film. As were the previous films, this one would be a musical with brand-new songs. The Fab Four were on board with the film idea since they were fans of the original books written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Like me, I bet you're wondering how the films would be cast. I grew up with the 2000s Peter Jackson trilogy and the 1978 animated film as well, so I ...

Kinda Review: 2019 - Logan Crosby

Heyo! Welcome to the first Kinda Review of the year. Today, I am rambling about one of my favorite albums of 2024, 2019  by Logan Crosby. If you are unfamiliar with Logan, I just wrote a Fangirl Friday about him . 2019  cover and tracklist Logan Crosby is a new country artist I found last year and have been lowkey obsessed with ever since. Man has got me mesmerized with his voice. Despite being a writer, I do not have the words to describe it. He is incredible and I hope you check out more of his music after this. Disclaimer: I am NOT a music critic. I am just someone who listens to and enjoys music daily. I do not have the vocabulary to talk music accurately, but I do have the vocabulary to say why I enjoy a song. FIRST OF ALL, before I get into the music, can we talk about the album cover? I am OBSESSED with the surgeon general warning label. It reads: "Listening to Logan Crosby can significantly alter your mood. Resulting in feelings of joy, sadness and nostalgia. If ...

That Time a Calvary Racked Up a $15,000 Bar Tab

Heyo! Happy Monday! This week I've decided to focus on a moment in American history that I found very interesting when I first heard the tagline and digging into it more, my inner nerd got even more excited. So let's get into it. City Tavern || Library of Congress First off, I need to quickly give context for one of the key players in this story. The Light Horse of the City of Philadelphia was one of the first military organizations for the American Revolution. It is today known as The First Troop Philadelphia City Calvary. Established in 1774, the Calvary fought in the battles of Trenton, Princeton, Brandywine, and Germantown during the American Revolutionary War. It also became George Washington's personal protection during the war. On September 15, 1787, Philadelphia Light Horse decided to throw Washington - who was not yet president of the United States but was President of the Constitutional Convention - a bit of a celebration following the end of the Constitutional C...

Fangirl Friday: Demi Lovato

Heyo! Happy Friday! The subject of my ramblings this week is one of my favorite artists, Demi Lovato. This one will be a little different than past Fangirl Fridays because my history as a fan of them is a bit complicated. It is not as clean-cut as I've loved them since the beginning. Demi identifies as non-binary and goes by they/them/she/her. So I will be referring to them as they/them. Demi Lovato for Teen Vogue || Courtesy of Josefina Santos My introduction to Demi was technically when they played Angela in Barney and Friends . I was a Barney kid. Loved the show and watched it probably every single day. I even had the stage show on VHS. I loved the show, but unfortunately, I think Angela was introduced to the show a little before I stopped watching. I don't remember much, but when I grew up and learned that Demi was Angela I remember being absolutely stunned. So obviously I didn't keep up with them. If you know me, you know of my lifelong love of the Jonas Brothers. So ...
