That Time the Day of Love Ended in Bloodshed

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm single as a pringle and I have never celebrated this holiday in my nearly 24 years of life. SO I am going to write about the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929. This one goes out to all my single people.

I have decided not to include photos of the actual massacre in this post, but you can easily find them with a quick Google search. Today's post is going up a little later than normal, but I wanted to post it around the time of the actual murder 92 years ago.

On 14 February 1929, five men were murdered in a Chicago garage. The victims were Albert Kachellek (alias James Clark), Adam Heyer, Albert Weinshank, Frank and Peter Gusenberg, Reinhardt H. Schwimmer, and John May. Five were members of the North Side Gang and two were affiliates. They were allegedly gunned down by four men with two Thompson submachine guns and two shotguns. Two of the gunmen were dressed as police officers and the other two wore suits, overcoats, and hats. Talk about the stereotypical 1920s Mobster aesthetic.

When police arrived on the scene, Frank Gusenberg was still alive, despite having suffered 14 bullet wounds. He was taken to the hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Before his death, when police questioned him about the massacre, he told them, "no one shot me." Seems to me like he believed snitches still got stitches in the afterlife.

To this day, none of the gunmen have ever been identified. However, some believe that it was perpetrated under the command of the infamous Al Capone. The four most popular suspects are John Scalise, Albert Anselmi, Jack McGurn, and Frank Rio. Another suspect was Fred Burke, who had the strongest evidence against him. The police didn't have enough evidence to convict him of the massacre, but he was found connected to the murder of a Missouri police officer and was sentenced to life in prison. He died in 1940.

There are many other theories of who the four gunmen were and 92 years later, this event is still discussed and dramatized in films and tv, the most recent being Gangster Land in 2017.

That Time A President Conducted Meetings from the Toilet

Happy Monday! Another week ahead. This week's weird moment from history is how President Lyndon B. Johnson conducted meetings and interviews while on the toilet. I, a 21-year-old adult, is still a HUGE fan of the High School Musical franchise. In high school, had I been a better planner, I would have asked Lucas Grabeel to be my prom date. And even though I was older than most viewers, I did love Teen Beach Movie when it came out. In this post, I am going to explain how Zac Efron and Garrett Clayton are basically the same person. Let's start at the beginning. You may know Zac Efron as Troy Bolton in the Disney Channel Original Movie (or DCOM), High School Musical and it's franchise.
