I have been a fan of Set It Off for pretty much the last half of my life. I knew someone who knew them and who was actually in their music video for "@Reply". So I have loved and supported them for a long time. I'll be honest, for a while I wasn't really following them, but I have always admired them and I've always been proud of them.
I will not be discussing the controversy surrounding Dan Clermont's departure from the band. If you want that "tea" look elsewhere. This post is just about why I love this band. Past and current members.
I've been a fan since 2008ish. I remember the band being Cody Carson, Dan Clermont, Austin Kerr and Zach DeWall when I first got into them. Don't ask me who the drummer was at the time. I don't know. Now only two members of that line-up are still in the band, but they now also have Maxx Danziger!
I followed Austin when I got back on Twitter after he left Set It Off, but he sent an automated DM as if he was still in the band and sent a follow up apologizing and saying he's not in the band anymore and I replied "are you still making music?" and he has yet to respond. But Yes, he still makes music, according to his Wikipedia page. No, I haven't heard any of it, but feel free to!
Currently, the band line-up is Cody, Max, and Zach. Dan left late last year. If there was ever a band that I had the most hope and belief in, it's Set It Off. Though their style has changed, it's only gotten better. Very few bands can say their style evolved. Most of the time when a band changes their style, it gets worse.
But I put Set If Off on the same shelf as Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy. Both are amazing bands whose styles evolved. At least I think so. I know some people may disagree with me.
I love the band's early work and I love their newer stuff. Honestly, I have hope in Zach, Cody, and Maxx. I don't think they need to add another member. There are plenty of amazing trios that make great music. Waterparks, being one of them. However, I wouldn't be mad if they did add more members.
They're not just a band I look at with rose colored glasses, I genuinely still love them. There's a list of bands I listened to in my youth that I can't say the same about. I was supposed to see them with my best friend last year, but life got in the way. I hope to someday see them.
My older brother saw them twice. Once when they were opening for Chiodos and then at Warped Tour and yes I am jealous of him.
I got into them in middle school and now I'm 23. They've been one of my few constant favorite bands.
I follow the band on Twitter and let me just say if you like them and don't follow them on Twitter you are missing out. I know Maxx streams on Twitch, but as I still don't have Wi-Fi I haven't been able to catch any of his streams, but I've seen clips and he is an icon.
If you haven't checked out Set It Off, I HIGHLY recommend listening to their music.
