Fangirl Friday: Demi Lovato

Heyo! Happy Friday! The subject of my ramblings this week is one of my favorite artists, Demi Lovato. This one will be a little different than past Fangirl Fridays because my history as a fan of them is a bit complicated. It is not as clean-cut as I've loved them since the beginning. Demi identifies as non-binary and goes by they/them/she/her. So I will be referring to them as they/them.

My introduction to Demi was technically when they played Angela in Barney and Friends. I was a Barney kid. Loved the show and watched it probably every single day. I even had the stage show on VHS. I loved the show, but unfortunately, I think Angela was introduced to the show a little before I stopped watching. I don't remember much, but when I grew up and learned that Demi was Angela I remember being absolutely stunned. So obviously I didn't keep up with them.

If you know me, you know of my lifelong love of the Jonas Brothers. So OBVIOUSLY I watched Camp Rock when it came out in 2008. Watched the ABC premiere on TV live. That was the night Demi officially showed up on my radar. I have to admit I didn't necessarily become a fan of theirs at the time. I was jealous of them. Not only was Demi best friends with Selena Gomez - who was my hero at the time - but they were playing Joe Jonas' love interest and then would go on to date him briefly. FOR THE RECORD Demi Lovato is the ONLY person I have ever actually been jealous of. I'm not a jealous person, but I felt like they were living the life I wanted - minus being a singer and actor.

However, I loved their music, despite my dumb jealousy of them. Demi has a phenomenal voice and their debut album, Don't Forget is such an important album to me. And that was BEFORE I found out the Jonas Brothers had a hand in writing some of the songs on it. I had the song "Don't Forget" on repeat on YouTube when I broke up with Joe parasocially in 2011. Don't Forget will definitely be getting it's own Kinda Review. I can talk about that album non-stop.

After Camp Rock came Princess Protection Program which is one of my favorite Disney Channel Original Movies. I strongly believe it is one of the best DCOMs and that is the hill I will die on. It's a movie about two teenage girls from completely different worlds who learn to become friends. It stars Demi and Selena Gomez and you see their real-life friendship come through in their performances. Plus it gave us "One in the Same" which is a song I love and often gets stuck in my head.

Naya Rivera and Demi Lovato on the set of Glee

I regret my delusionally stupid jealousy of Demi. Just because I wasted time not supporting someone who is now one of my heroes and favorite artists. I didn't end up becoming a real fan of them until they were in Glee. I'll admit, I rolled my eyes at the idea of Demi being in Glee, but I ended up loving their character. We stan Dani in this household. I loved their chemistry with Naya Rivera and when they sang together it was incredible.

Demi is one of my top-streamed artists on Spotify. They've made my top 10 artists since 2019 and I regret nothing. They took the #3 spot this past year. The only reason they didn't make it to #1 is because of the Jonas fixation.

What can I say about Demi's music? Insert that Lady Gaga clip. You know the one. They are so talented for no reason. I can listen to them sing anything and will absolutely love it. When they released Dancing With the Devil...the Art of Starting Over I was ecstatic. Their overdose was devastating. I remember the day so clearly. I am so glad they pulled through and that they are still around and continuing to make music. The Dancing With the Devil album is so real and I wish I could have watched the YouTube documentary series that was released in tandem with it, but I haven't gotten the chance to. But I love the album because it's an important album to me. The song "Anyone" is one of my favorite songs of all time and part of the reason I ended up checking myself into the hospital last year.

My favorite song of theirs right now as of writing this post is "CITY OF ANGELS" from HOLY FVCK. That whole album is a MASTERPIECE and I will definitely be writing a Kinda Review about it. It might be my favorite album. Actually, no it is. And if you know me, you know I listen to a lot of music constantly so my favorite album is the highest of honors. I love Demi's music and I am already looking forward to their next one.

Jordan Jutes (Jutes) and Demi Lovato

Demi got engaged to fellow artist, Jutes and I am ecstatic for them. They look so happy. I wish Demi and Jordan many happy years together. They deserve nothing but happiness and all things good. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them.

I absolutely adore Demi and I am so grateful to them, not just for their music but because they are one of the few celebrities who are real and don't shy away from their struggles. Their honesty about their drug addiction and mental health has helped people like me know we're not alone. So thank you, Demi.

Zac Efron and Garrett Clayton are Basically the Same Person

I, a 21-year-old adult, is still a HUGE fan of the High School Musical franchise. In high school, had I been a better planner, I would have asked Lucas Grabeel to be my prom date. And even though I was older than most viewers, I did love Teen Beach Movie when it came out. In this post, I am going to explain how Zac Efron and Garrett Clayton are basically the same person. Let's start at the beginning. You may know Zac Efron as Troy Bolton in the Disney Channel Original Movie (or DCOM), High School Musical and it's franchise. He is the attractive blue-eyed, protagonist of all three HSM movies. And I will admit that I was a huge fangirl for him in my youth. Honestly, now I can't stand him. But that's for another post. Zac portrayed Troy in all three HSM films, but he only sang in the last two. That's right. Zac Efron did not sing in the first HSM movie. That was the amazingly talented Drew Seeley whom I will love till the day I die. Similarly, Garrett Clayton pl...

Is Marvin from Falsettos Abusive? And Why is He Such an Easy Character to Hate?

Is Marvin abusive? Short answer: yes. Long answer: You've come to the right place. "I love my tight-knit family. I love the way they cook linguine." Let's get this out of the way, this blog, as all of my blog posts are, is 100% my opinion. Unless stated directly that it is fact, this is all what's going on in my mind. Thoughts from a fangirl, if you will. Also I have to use Spotify to link the songs, because the entire 2016 revival cast album is not on YouTube and I know the revival album better than the original albums. Also this post is going to be long because I'm actually going through actual lines from the musical. I am going to try to sprinkle some photos into this post. "Lovers come and lovers go." Listen to "Marvin Hits Trina" on Spotify. Let's start with the most obvious: Marvin hits Trina after learning that she's going to marry Mendel. Where can you find this scene? In "Marvin Hits Trina". It'...

That Time A President Conducted Meetings from the Toilet

Happy Monday! Another week ahead. This week's weird moment from history is how President Lyndon B. Johnson conducted meetings and interviews while on the toilet. I learned way too much about LBJ while doing research for this post and it is going to be a LONG time before I write another weird history post about him. But there will be at least another one in the future. Man was weird. Quick history lesson for my non-Americans who may not know who LBJ is. Lyndon Baines Johnson was the 36th President of the United States. He assumed the position following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He was president from 1963 til 1969. NOW if you're like me and you grew up with the rewatching the movie Forrest Gump over and over again your first introduction to LBJ might be when Forrest was being honored with the Medal of Honor and showed the president where he was "shot in the buttocks" during the Vietnam War.  I haven't watched Forrest Gump in years, but if you haven't...
