I wasn't going to post anything in December, but then this song dropped and I couldn't stay silent. "Roses" by benny blanco and Juice WRLD ft. Brendon Urie came out yesterday.
As you know I am a HUGE fan of Brendon Urie and of course, I had to listen to the song in support of him.
Let me admit, I am not a fan of benny blanco or Juice WRLD. I never even heard their music before this song. This is a completely honest opinion from an outsider.
I don't hate the song. I actually think it's a decent song and will get plenty of radio playtime. I have a feeling it's going to become popular. However, with that being said let me tell you why I don't love the song.
I am not a music critic. I don't know anything about producing music, but I do listen to a lot of music. A LOT. I personally hate drum machines - or whatever you call that effect - that all the rap and pop artist use. Maybe they use different settings, but it all sounds to me and to me it's like nails on a chalkboard. So that alone makes this song lose some points in my book.
But if that sound were to be removed from the song, I might actually like it a lot. But I am not the demographic this song is targeting so my opinion on that doesn't really matter.
The only part of my opinion regular readers came from is Brendon's vocals. So let's talk about it! He comes in around 01:58 of the song.
Of course, Brendon's voice is one of my favorite voices to listen to and this song was no exception. Now I have to ask, am I crazy or did he use some type of autotune or minor effect on his voice? Because let's be real he doesn't need anything on his voice. In my opinion, he's one of the best singers of his era of music.
I love his part. Of course, I came to the song just for him, but that's expected. Wherever Brendon goes I follow. If he told me to jump off a bridge, I probably would. Not gonna lie.
I know this post was short and quick, but I did want to write about it. Check out the song if you haven't. I inserted the audio-video towards the top of the post.
On an unrelated note, Jon Walker (former Panic! at the Disco member) is supposed to be coming out with a new EP or album soon. If it comes out before I leave for vacation I will try to write about it, but if it comes out after I leave, I'll wait until I get home to listen to it and write a post. So you have that to look forward to.
